Serenity Circle House

Serenity CircleHouse, nestled in a cul-de-sac lot in Los Angeles, epitomizes modern luxury while overcoming the unique challenges presented by its urban environment. Designed by Joon Kim, this project not only showcases architectural innovation but also serves as a personal development endeavor for Joon Kim. The residence sits on a lot that is long and curved along the street frontage, with a shallow depth, making the design process particularly challenging. However, these constraints were turned into advantages through Joon Kim's creative problem-solving, resulting in a highly successful design. This project reflects Joon Kim's growth as a designer, where each challenge was an opportunity to refine his approach to space, form, and function, ultimately crafting a residence that harmonizes with its unique setting while pushing the boundaries of conventional design.
This project masterfully interpreted the complexities of the terrain, transforming them into design strengths. The residence features expansive windows that bathe the interiors in natural light, offering breathtaking city views. The open-plan layout enhances fluidity between living spaces, while outdoor areas like balconies, terraces, and a roof deck extend living outdoors, embracing LA's lifestyle. Inspired by Japanese aesthetics, the design includes minimalist interiors with natural materials. This home is not just a residence but a sanctuary where Zen principles meet urban vibrancy, offering a peaceful retreat within the city's energy. The innovative use of the lot's shape showcases how architectural ingenuity can transform limitations into distinctive features.
